Designing in CSS3 and CSS3 features is now days the most exciting features for all designers and front-end developer.With the new and impressive features of CSS3 it is getting lot of attention and most awaited thing in the internet world.Although many features are available that we can use right now on our website but many of them are in still in drafting or under work.

I worked in Internet Marketing, designed and developed many newsletters and e-mailers, for designer like me I always wanted that there should also be upgrading in the way of coding of the newsletters.As, for newsletters and e-mailers coding we have to still use the old table based approach and inline based style sheet in which many of the tags are not supported by the newsletters.

But good to see the campaign monitor's latest guide for css3 support for newsletters that CSS3 is to some extent supported now in newsletters and full support on Apple Email, iphone and iPad.

HTML Newsletters Guide

Hi Friends,

Newsletters are like a marketing/sales representative of your company for your clients.In the worked of internet, companies are making use of Internet Marketing to do marketing and sales of there services.
But as the Sales representative have some guidelines of "How to Look" to make the first impression same is the case with the newsletters too.So, here are the few basic guidelines for your newsletters:-

1) Say No to Images
We have to understand that the Newsletters are very much different from the websites.Newsletters are depend upon the mail boxes and where by default images are blocked and receiver is only getting a square with the cross sign that image is not coming and moreover your message in image is lost.

So try to avoid images and if you are using images then always design in that way that images are not covering any important message.

2) Alt tag is your friend
Alt tag is the alternative text of the images, so when you are using the images make sure you are utilizing the alt tag very well
you can provide the information what they have in the image by the alt text.Also get extra creative as I used to do...I used to make alt tag as CTA by giving the alt text "Avail FREE Gifts on a click" or "Explore the New Features"
such alt tags create the user to click and give them break from the bore alt tags.

3) Not Everything Should be A tag
Many times designer try to get the click they put the whole content into the a tag but they forget that could actually irritate the users and also we should never
under-estimate the users they can judge by seeing so many links that its just a technique of getting clicks and might hurt your reputation too.
So, the best way to make the special keywords links and not more than 5-6 words in one paragraph
and make sure to leave the default color of links as it will help to recognize them better.

Also, images should also be link always as it is the tendency of users to click on the images and you cant tolerate to loose any single click

4) CTA is most important
CTA (CALL TO ACTION) is the main core thing of the every newsletter and CTA should be bold,clear and having very clear message on it.eg:- Register Now!! , Talk To Us Now!!, Order Now!!, Grab your Copy Now!!
Having 2-3 CTA in newsletter will help you to get the attention of users, but its not necessary to get 2-3 CTA only 1 bold CTA can do the magic but it all depends upon the requirements and design of your.

5) Width and Height matters
Sometimes to adjust our content we don't consider the Height and width of the newsletters and that become a dangerous step for newsletters.Newsletters with lengthy height and big width taking the whole inbox space irritate user.So, always keep a red alarm when crossing the width/height.It is OK to have the Newsletters size can be from 600px to 800px but try to avoid cross that size and also keep checking the length too.Lengthy newsletters means scrolling the content and as we are already checking the NL in the mail box the half of the top is occupied by the mail items, which means above the scroll is occupied we have to design the newsletter is such a way so that we could avoid too much scrolling.

6) Subject Line
Subject line of newsletters is like the envelope of your mail, if the user didn't like the envelope he never gonna open it.So while selecting the subject line make sure it is attractive subject line enough to make receiver to click on it and open your mail.

7) Content is king here too
Like web the content is king here too but like web don't make one page content.Write your content short and straight.Also, try to break your content in sub-parts or sections.You can also add bullets points and heading to make your content readable.Make the key points BOLD.So that in first look the user can scan the bold points first.

My Journey to Internet Marketing

Hi Friends,

Thanks to my previous job I got myself into new world of Internet Marketing.For me internet Marketing was just about SEO, link building, alt tags etc.But I was totally wrong.

But I am happy to get myself to internet marketing and to challenge my skills as web designer and graphic
designer.

We as designer when ever present our website design to client we always say LOADS of beautiful stuff about our design and claims that by keeping in mind the target audience and user we have done the navigation,images or Blah Blah.

But do we actually read or study our target audience?Do we ever design and then re-design our website on the basis of our target audience response?Do we ever measure our design effectiveness?The strong area the weak area?

Thanks to "Internet Marketing" where it is all about study and read your audience behavior, there like there dislike, to LOVE them in short.

First lesson I learned in Internet Marketing is to not design for yourself design for your target audience.you have to keep yourself in some others shoes and then start your thinking process.

Internet marketing is all about measuring the ROI of your every design.you can sit and check each and every thing where the user click most and from where he comes to where he goes and where he drop.

Internet Marketing is related to Paid and free, so getting maximum ROI from that is the biggest challenge for the designer,especially when you are designing newsletters and e mailers...you have to drop all the graphics, all images and go back to the table codes and design by keeping in mind that the what if images will be block? What if user is too busy to open email..what should we keep the subject line to make him open the email?

So, designing for internet marketing is very different from the website designing.But it is fun and challenging too.It is fun to study your audience to fall in love with them , to keep experimenting new things, to keep measuring your design effectiveness, its success rate.Challenge is to get maximum ROI.

I really want to admit this that just because of my exposure to internet marketing, I am able to re-work on my website design concepts and design.Now, I design and test and check the result and then re-design again.This really help me to stand out of crowd of other designers.

Hi Friends,

Please advice me what to do... one of guy came to me to have his website design by me...I design mock up for him he liked that too in fact he loved that but because of money he didn't gave me money(which I think now was an excuse) I was ok with that as he was asking 15 page website with flash in 1500 INR can you believe the standard of people...and how after few days I checked his domain and I was shocked that guy copied my design and jut change the colors and when I asked him he was not accepting this means see the limits of lie of guys speaking such a BIG LIE on face.Dude I design that design and just changing the color will not make that your creativity and your design.
(I wish I could give him tight slap on his face.)

So, furstated with that guy and his lies that I was assuming that there should be some copyright law too in the Creative field too.Because it is totally wrong stealing someone's creativity and hard work.(Although I abuse him a lot I cursed him a lot as he was also my friend which is more hurting).

But I wonder that so many negative and wrong people are around you ...they are ready to kill you they are ready to ditch they are so selfish that they are ready to do anything just to get success in life but have they ever think that on the cost of success what they are losing?? they are losing the self respect, Honesty , reputation and very important friends..like with my SO-CALLED FRIEND...he lost my friendship,my respect and now I just abuse him for me he is just THIEF...but on every serious note...We should have some copyright law on design too, so that designers like me can claim the cost of the work they done.

Well he get my design traced from some low cost designer(who are zero in very thing but people consider tham coz they charge 0 too for there work) and I feel so shamed that how his designer after getting the original design coudnt able to give the quality to the design.Shame on both the designer and this guy(THIEF)

“One of the most versatile elements of an ad is color. It can attract attention and helps in creating a mood. Depending on the product and the advertising appeal, color can be used for a number of reasons.”

Designs come to life only when we fill it with colors. Color and design always have the strong relationship and they go hand to hand. Color has the great impact on the human behavior and in creating, changing and representing the mood. Color is an attention-getting device with few exceptions people notice a color ad more readily than one in black and white.

Every designer always choose the color that go best with the brand, idea, product and other important features. Every color has a special meaning and associated with the human psychology.

E.g.: -Cool, passive environments are created with blues and pastels, red denotes excitement and warmth and yellow suggests springtime and youth.

Certain products can only be presented realistically in color. Household furnishings, food, many clothing and fashion accessories and cosmetics would lose most of their appeal if advertised in black and white.

Primary Colors

There are three primary colors.All other colors are driven from these primary color.We have the Red, Blue and yellow which are know as the basic or primary color

Complimentary colors

Complimentary colors are those colors which are opposite to the primary colors. These are the colors formed by mixing the primary colors.
eg:- Red-green, Yellow- Violet, Blue- orange

Tertiary Colors

These are the colors formed by mixing a primary and a secondary color. That's why the hue is a two word name, such as blue-green, red-violet, and yellow-orange.
eg:- Yellow-Orange, Red-Orange, Red-Purple, Blue-Purple, Blue-Green and Yellow-Green.

Color what they reflect?

As I said earlier before that color affect the human psychology.So, every color is having its own meaning and every designer should have the good knowledge of the colors and its meaning to make the creative design weather it is print or web.A good sense of color combination can make wonders.So,here are some colors and there meaning

Pink - Softness
Green - Right direction and freshness
Brown – Old
Orange – Future
Violet – Royalty
Blue – Cool, passive environment
Red – Excitement and Warmth
Yellow – Spring time and Youth.

SEO - Search Engine Optimization is the most important step of every web site. To achieve the good result from the SEO one has to do the SEO job from the starting of the website slicing. How? It's simple but very important too. You can win the half battle of SEO if you will start making your XHTML according to the web crawler. Below are few points that every designer should do while doing XHTML of website.

1) Right and Meaningful Title
Designers should use the title tag properly. Title is the name of the page and every designer should name it properly and very accurate. You can put your keywords too in the title tag to catch the web crawler.

2) Keywords - The Gold Treasure!
The core of the good SEO result in the keywords. Choose the best keywords from the pool of the keywords. Try to get those keywords that is more accurate to your website theme and can get more traffic through the search engine.

3) ALT tag - what is this?
Are you using images? Then NEVER EVER forget to put the ALT tag . ALT tag is the replacement text of the images. So, that when the web crawler is crawling and reaches the images it can read the ALT tag where the description of the images is there. As we all know that Web Crawler just love content and content so the key is that you can put your keywords in alt tags too.

4) Give title tag to links
Yes, you read the right thing. Don't leave your links blank. Just add one title tag in the anchor tag to put your keywords and some little more description of the link in that title tag. The reason is same our Web Crawler.

5) Links,Links and Links
Yes, links are very very useful to catch Web Crawler. Try to put your keywords in the link tag. Look the example:

So, replace all "Read more.." or "Find More..." with the keywords.

6) Minimium Flash
Oh ! I love flash...those effects those flashy things but oops!!! Our web crawler hate it as it cannot read it. So, if your aim is the SEO than AVOID flash...use it to the minimal.As, web crawler cannot read the flash and it will be the biggest disadvantage for your website.

7) So many images!!!
Yes, we have ALT tag but that doesn't mean that you will put everything in the ALT tag and make your website full of images. It will make the website heavy and as a result takes lot of time in downloading. Use images but only when require.

8) No Broken Links
Check,check and check again. Always check for the broken images and links. And if you find them, fix them ASAP as web crawler hate broken things.

9) Understand Web Crawler
Yes, go close to web crawler it wont hurt you. Make him your friend and understand his needs..how he walks, what he loves and what he don't and than analyze your XHTML and change it according to the your new friend Web Crawler.

10) Content and Content- Jackpot
Last but not the least.The most important essence of the SEO is the Content. Write original, Accurate and relevant content and see the Magic. Content is the favorite food of web crawler.

Typography in Designing

Typography plays a vital role in the Print as well as the Web Designing. Good and proper way of presenting Typography helps in boosting the design and also give an attractive look to our simple design.Typography can give simple, sleek look and also funky and grunge look too. But the most important thing is to use it in good and better way.Although most of the web designer complaints that there is only a bunch of hand full web safe fonts only that they can use and put in there website. But if we will try to make those hand full of web-safe font in the more good and presentable way then you will be able to see the difference.

So, here are some guidelines that you can follow to make your dull Typography bright and to boost up your web site.

1) Do not mix too many Fonts
Many designers try to use different types of font in one single home page in order to spice up the page but they forget that too many things can make the page clumsy and cluttered which lead to confusion only.
So, instead of using too many different fonts in single web page try to stick to only 2 fonts. One for headings and one for the body text.By this you are also maintaing the consistency in the design too.

2) Choosing right font-size
This is the one of the very common issue with the web designers.When ever they are declaring the font-size they forget the term “Useability and accessability”.Most of the times the designers don’t follow any pattern and without any thought they randomly declare the links in bigger and bold and rest of the content in 11 px .
But the key is to first see what meesage you want to convey to the users by that particular content and after that decide what is the most important word or phrase in the content.After this,Heading should always be big in size and clear cut..so that it can speak for itself that I am the heading. In body content highlight only those words, links or phrases that you can catch the interest of the user.

3) Right font-color

Whether we are doing designing for web or print we should always follow the terms...“Useability and Accessability”.We should use the font color which is easily readable. Using light font color on light color background would not highlight the text and will not be readable at all. Same in the case if we use the font color that is merging with the background, so always choose the font color that is easily readable and coming out from the background.

4) Alignment

A simple website with good and proper alignment can do wonders in compression to the best design, highly creative but non-aligned website.Aligmeny is the key of the presentation of the design.
Alignment gives the look that the things are well placed rather than just laid off. So try to align each n every thing on the web page with each another and then see the magic of the word “Alignment”

5 )Consistent

Although consistent should be the first key advice to the designer but what I feel is that once you have followed the above 6 rules, the consistency will come by itself.
Consistency in design make wonders and give the user love at first sight with the design.
